Today we’re diving into something that can supercharge your success: The 12 Skills of the Top 1%. These are the skills that set the most successful people apart — and I believe YOU can start mastering them today.
But first, let me share a story you probably haven’t heard in full…
You’ve likely heard of Sara Blakely, the founder of Spanx and the world’s youngest self-made female billionaire. (And yes — I personally thank God for her because I can now wear white pants with no insecurities! Ha!) But she didn’t start with investors, fashion experience, or a fancy degree. She was selling fax machines door-to-door and getting rejected constantly.
So, how did she rise to the top 1%?
✅ She had clarity of vision
✅ She practiced resilience
✅ She lived with a growth mindset
And if she can do it… so can YOU.
Let’s dive into these 12 life-changing skills — and I’ve got a free checklist download you can use to track your progress and practice these habits.
The top 1% know exactly what they want.
Walt Disney had a crystal-clear vision: “the happiest place on earth.” Even when people called him crazy and he faced bankruptcy, he kept his eyes on the dream. He could see Disneyland in his heart long before the land was purchased or the gates opened.
Proverbs 29:18 says, “Where there is no vision, the people perish.”
Ask yourself:
What exactly do I want?
Where do I want to live?
How much do I want to save?
What do I want to accomplish?
Get clear. Write the vision. Make it plain.
The top 1% don’t chase squirrels!
When Steve Jobs returned to Apple in 1997, the company was failing. He reduced their 300+ products down to just 10! Why? Because focus is the key to greatness.
He said, “I’m actually as proud of the things we haven’t done as the things we have done.”
Want success? Get focused.
✅ One debt to pay off
✅ One health goal to reach
✅ One book to write
Focused people get results.
Successful people don’t waste time scrolling and snoozing. They make time.
Like the young woman Jada, who wanted to start a beauty brand but was wasting time every day. One day she heard:
“How you spend your time is how you spend your life.”
That hit her like a confetti cannon to the face!
She created a “dream schedule,” blocked out her mornings, and dedicated time to God and her goals. Six months later — she launched her first product. One year later — her side hustle was out-earning her job.
Treat time like treasure, not trash.
✅ Use a planner
✅ Set alarms
✅ Guard your dream hours
“Either you run the day or the day runs you.”
Successful people are decisive.
Like Sarah, the graphic designer who kept going back and forth about starting her business: “Should I? Maybe later…” Until she heard:
“Not making a decision is a decision — to stay stuck.”
That day, she drew a line in the sand and gave herself a deadline:
“I’m launching by the end of the month.”
Within six months, she had paying clients, a team, and momentum.
Dreams die in indecision.
Pray, get wisdom, decide — and MOVE!
The Rock (Dwayne Johnson) is one of the highest-paid actors in the world. But it’s not luck — it’s discipline. He gets up at 4 a.m. no matter what to work out. Even on vacation. Even when filming. He calls it, “putting in the hard work when no one is watching.”
He says: “Success isn’t always about greatness. It’s about consistency.”
Daily discipline is what transformed a broke ex-football player into a global icon.
Small disciplines = Big results.
It’s not magic — it’s habits.
Proverbs 24:16 — “Though a righteous man falls seven times, he rises again.”
Before J.K. Rowling became one of the most successful authors ever, she was a single mom on welfare, writing ideas on scraps of paper. She was rejected 12 times by publishers.
But she didn’t quit. She kept believing.
Today, she’s sold over 500 million books — all because she refused to give up.
Resilience doesn’t mean you don’t fall — it means you get back up.
Your past doesn’t define you. Your mindset does.
Steve Madden, the famous shoe designer, went to prison for stock manipulation. He could have given up. Instead, in prison, he kept a positive mindset, read books, designed shoes, and visualized his comeback.
When he got out, he rebuilt his brand — and turned it into a billion-dollar company.
As Joyce Meyer says:
“You cannot live a positive life with a negative mind.”
Your mindset is your direction. Don’t let your past sabotage your future.
Communication isn’t about talking — it’s about connecting.
Think of Seth Godin — he doesn’t shout to be heard. But his quiet, clear communication has impacted millions. From bestselling books like Purple Cow to his podcasts and blog, he keeps it simple and meaningful.
Why? Because clarity is power.
Learn to communicate in a way that connects, inspires, and leads.
Success isn’t just about making money — it’s about managing it.
Magic Johnson took his NBA earnings and multiplied them through investing in Starbucks, movie theaters, and real estate. Today, he’s a business mogul with hundreds of millions in assets.
Jesus said in Luke 16:10, “Whoever can be trusted with little can also be trusted with much.”
Read one book. Make a budget. Take a step.
Start where you are — just start.
You can’t lead others until you lead yourself.
Tony Robbins didn’t wait for someone to tell him what to do. He invested in his growth, sought out mentors like Jim Rohn, and consumed books and seminars daily.
Ask yourself:
What books am I reading?
What podcasts am I learning from?
Who is mentoring me?
As John Maxwell says, “Everything rises and falls on leadership.”
And that includes self-leadership.
Failure isn’t the end — it’s fuel.
When Michael Jordan was cut from his high school basketball team, he didn’t quit. He practiced harder. He believed deeper. And he pushed further.
He said:
“I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.”
The top 1% never stop learning. Keep reading, keep stretching, keep growing. If you’re not growing, you’re plateauing!
You knew I wouldn’t leave this out!
Bold faith is what moves mountains and manifests miracles.
Hilary Swank was living in her car in L.A. Everyone said she’d never make it. But she believed. She showed up. She took a risky role — and she won an Academy Award.
Matthew 19:26 says,
“With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
Don’t wait for perfect conditions. Believe BIG. Faith is the secret weapon of every top achiever.
The best part is: You don’t need to master all 12 today. Just pick ONE skill to focus on this week.
